This are the latest update in world rankings 1st place - mTw from Denmark 2nd place - SK Gaming from Sweden 3rd place - Mousesports from Germany 4 - Fnatic 5 - Meet Your Makers 6 - eStro 7 - Made in Brazil 8 - GamePlay 9 - Team Alternate 10 - Evil Geniuses
It should come as no surprise to CS fans that fnatic, the team to beat thus far in 2009 has won WCG Sweden 2009 and secured themselves a spot at the WCG 2009 Global Finals in Chengdu, China.
While the final outcome was expected, the road to the finals for fnatic was anything but. Their first challenge came in the form of Team Begrip who was fresh off a roster change from earlier this week, fnatic nearly lost the first map winning in overtime. fnatic then proceeded to lose the second map 16-14 and was able to win on the third map 16-12. Needless to say, Begrip far outperformed anyone's expectations.
There was another surprise in store for fnatic, contrary to expectations it was not SK Gaming who they would meet in the finals, but team H2k (former lemondogs) who they would meet. H2k was able to defeat SK in three maps including a double overtime on dust2 for the final map.
When fnatic met up with H2k in the Grand Finals for the tournament, both teams had already locked in a spot at the WCG 2009 Grand finals so a little pressure was off for both teams. Fnatic won the first map fairly easily with a 16-9 scoreline. Keeping their momentum up fnatic beat H2k 16-8 on de_inferno to win WCG Sweden 2009.
Following a string of bad results for Blight.ca, the team decides to add well known player Garett "GRT" Bambrough. Bambrough who is well known for his time with Pandemic and for being in the CGS has left his former team, Team Vortex in search of greener pastures in the Canadian CS scene.
Exiting the active roster for Blight.ca will be Mike "techtroN" Cox, Bambrough will be the new fifth for the team as they prepare for WCG Canada and continue participating online in CEVO Professional, ESEA Invite, and ESL Invite.
When GotFrag got in touch with Bambrough he had the following to say about the change:
"First I want to say that I hate parting with teams and did not want this to happen. However, Vortex and I didn't work out because we were on different pages in terms of cs, and didn't see eye to eye on a lot of things. With roster problems since the get go, we had talked about some lineups and this close to WCG I wasn't feeling how things were going and decided it would be best to part ways with the team. Blight came around unexpectedly and it was good timing for me since they are going to WCG and are a great bunch of guys. They are newer to the top level of CS for NA and I look forward to helping them grow as I take in a new role for a team as I will not be the in game leader. I wish vortex the best of luck and hope to see them at WCG because we did have some good times along with the bad."
With the addition of Bambrough Blight.ca will likely have a stronger chance at winning WCG Canada and securing themselves a spot at the WCG Global Finals later this year in Chengdu, China.
